When WASA Lahore Turns the Water On
Lahore does not get municipal water all day. Tubewells run in three windows. Fill the ground tank in those hours. The tap going quiet between them is the schedule, not always a breakdown.

Daily Supply Windows
Summer is April to October. Winter is November to March. Pressure usually peaks 30 to 45 minutes after the pumps start, once air has left the main.

The morning window is the longest. In summer the tubewells start at 5:00 AM. The afternoon window is about two hours, so the tank can recover before evening. The evening run is timed for people coming home, and it is what tops the tank for the night. Store water inside these hours. Running a booster when the main is empty burns the pump.
Ramadan and Eid
During Ramadan the day shifts toward Sehri and Iftar. Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha get extra hours. On Eid-ul-Adha the tubewells run with sanitation teams so water is there for cleaning.

Which Part of Lahore You Are In
WASA Lahore, under the Lahore Development Authority Act, 1975, supplies a city of more than 13 million people from tubewells, not from a river tap that runs all day. Water is drawn from about 400 to 700 feet and dosed with chlorine on the way into the main. The city is split into zones. A maintenance notice is issued for a division, not for every street at once. The zone name is on the monthly bill.
Zones 1 and 2
Ravi and Shalimar. The Walled City, Shadbagh, Baghbanpura, Misri Shah, and the dense neighbourhoods around them.
Zones 3 and 4
Gulberg and Samanabad. Gulberg, Ichhra, Samanabad, Iqbal Town, Garden Town, and Mozang.
Zones 5 and 6
Gajjumata and Nishtar. Township, Green Town, Johar Town, Faisal Town, and the housing schemes beside them.
If the whole street is dry inside a supply window, it is a zonal fault. Call 1334 or use the WASA Lahore helpline and zonal offices. One house with no water, while the neighbour's tap runs, is usually the service pipe between the main and your wall.
When a LESCO Outage Stops the Tubewell
Lahore has more than 600 heavy tubewells. They stop when the feeder stops. Critical stations have a second feeder or a diesel generator. Smaller neighbourhood wells often do not, and fuel limits how long a generator runs. After the power returns, the main needs 15 to 30 minutes to build pressure. Houses at the end of the line, or on higher ground, feel that lag first.
Check the LESCO shutdown schedule before you assume the tubewell has burnt out. If the lights are on and the water is still absent after half an hour, then it is a WASA fault, not a power cut.
Low Pressure: What to Do, and What Not to Fit

Do not fit a donkey pump on the WASA main. Direct suction is illegal. It pulls sewage into the pipe and starves the neighbours. Enforcement teams remove the pump and fine the house. Lift water only from your own underground tank.
Ask for a Tanker on 1334
Use this when the supply is actually off: a repair, a burnt motor, or a tubewell that is down. Call WASA helpline 1334 or go to the zonal water office. Give the 8-digit account code from the bill, the full address, a mobile number, and what failed. Keep the complaint ticket from the SMS.
- Free tanker. The supply in your area has been fully off for more than 24 hours because of WASA's own work: a new pipe, construction, or a tubewell replacement.
- Paid tanker. The street still has water and your own tank or plumbing is the problem. Delivery is typically Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,500, depending on size and distance.
The Bill Is Separate from the Timing
WASA charges by plot size on an unmetered connection, or by volume if you have a meter. The rupee bands, including a 5-marla example, are in the WASA Lahore tariff guide. Staying paid is what keeps a live connection. It does not change the tubewell clock.

- Pay by 1Bill, a bank app, EasyPaisa, JazzCash, or a bank counter.
- A new water or sewer connection, or a larger size, goes through the one-window centre. Papers are in the new connection guide.
- Email alerts send the bill when it is issued. Wrong tariff, a meter dispute, or dirty water still goes to 1334.
Store It Clean, and Use Less of It
The water table under Lahore is falling by about 1 to 1.5 metres a year. The schedule will not get longer to make up for a hose left on the driveway.
Drinking
- Boil municipal water for 3 to 5 minutes before you drink it.
- An RO unit or a multi-stage filter is for drinking water, not for the whole house.
- Empty the underground tank about every six months.
- If it smells or looks wrong, stop cooking with it, run the tap 15–20 minutes, and call 1334 if it does not clear.
Waste
- Wash the car and the driveway with a bucket, not an open hose.
- Fix a running toilet and a float valve that never shuts.
- A faucet aerator cuts flow without changing the tubewell time.
- Turn the tap off while you brush or shave. That water came from a three-hour window.
