Your tap water in Faisalabad travels a long way before it reaches your home. This guide explains where WASA Faisalabad gets its water, how the WASA lab checks it, how to reach the lab, and simple steps that keep water clean inside your house.
Where it comes from
Mostly tube wells near the Chenab River and along canals, not the city's own ground water.
Who checks it
The WASA Research Laboratory at Millat Chowk tests samples from sources and from homes.
What you control
Your tank, your pipes and your motor pump. Many problems start here.
Why Faisalabad brings water from far away
WASA Faisalabad says the city's ground water is quite saline, so it is not fit for drinking. Because of this, WASA pumps sweet water from well fields outside the city and brings it to a terminal reservoir before it is sent to homes.
The four sources, side by side
| Source | How it works | Water per day |
|---|---|---|
| Chiniot Well Field | 29 tube wells near the Chenab River, about 27 km from the terminal reservoir | About 56 MGD |
| Jhang Branch Canal | 25 tube wells, about 13 km from the terminal reservoir | About 20 MGD |
| Rakh Branch Canal | 8 tube wells along the canal that passes through the city | About 8 MGD |
| Surface water treatment | Jhal Khanuana Water Works and Millat Town Water Works | About 4.5 MGD |
| Total, as stated by WASA | About 88.5 MGD | |
MGD means million gallons per day.
What the WASA lab actually does
WASA Faisalabad runs a Research Laboratory to watch the quality of both drinking water and waste water. According to WASA, its work includes:
- Regular monitoring. Samples are taken from the main sources and also from consumer points, and WASA says this follows World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.
- Sample collection. The team collects samples from sources and homes to find pollution.
- Project support. The lab supports bigger water projects in the city.
Common reasons water goes bad after it leaves WASA
The lab lists three problems that harm water quality:
- Old pipes and rusted lines.
- Wrong use of motor pumps.
- Poor storage of water at home.
