Split an SSGC Bill You Cannot Pay in One Go

SSGC calls it qist. It is a formal plan that breaks a heavy gas bill, or the arrears on it, into monthly parts. It is for a home in Sindh or Balochistan, and you apply in person.

A bill from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, or Islamabad is SNGPL, not SSGC. Use the SNGPL installment steps for that meter. If you only need this month's amount, check the SSGC bill with your consumer number before you take a day off for the office.

Before you go

Domestic accounts with a high winter bill or built-up arrears can be considered. The meter must be a normal working domestic meter, with no theft, tampering, bypass, or unauthorised commercial use on the record. The person at the counter should be the registered consumer, or someone that consumer has authorised, with an original CNIC. The officer, not the form, decides the number of parts. Plans on this guide are usually 3 to 6 installments, and a down payment is required before the plan starts.

Why the Winter Bill Is the One People Split

OGRA prices gas in slabs. A geyser and a room heater move a household into a higher band, then meter rent, sales tax, and last month's arrears sit on top. The total can be several times a summer bill. How those bands work is in the SSGC tariff and slab guide.

An approved qist is the company's plan, so you are not guessing a private arrangement with a bank. Pay each part by its date and the supply stays on. Miss one, and the relief can be cancelled, the full arrears put back, and a disconnection notice issued. A late surcharge on an overdue balance can still apply. Splitting the bill does not erase that surcharge. It stops you having to find the whole sum on one day.

What to Take to the Customer Care Centre

ItemWhy they ask
Latest gas bill, paid or unpaidShows the consumer number and the amount you want split. Download it from the SSGC bill page if the paper copy is lost.
Original CNIC of the registered consumerThe plan is issued to that person, or to someone they have authorised.
Proof of residence or ownershipConfirms the meter belongs to the address on the application.

Customer care centres and zonal offices are in Sindh and Balochistan, including Karachi and Hyderabad. Do not take an SNGPL reference number to an SSGC counter. The companies do not share accounts.

How the Application Goes

1

Print the bill and the CNIC

Know the figure you are asking to split. If the bill on the counter is an old estimate, the officer will not match it to the live account.

2

Ask for the installment form

At the help desk, request the gas-bill installment application. Write the consumer number, a phone number that you answer, why you need qist, and how many months you are asking for.

3

Sit with the billing officer

They read your payment history. Approval is a review, not a button in the app. They set the conditions, commonly three to six parts plus a down payment. There is no fixed public percentage for that down payment. It is whatever the approved challan says.

4

Pay the down payment the same day

Take the endorsed challan to the bank branch they name. The plan does not start when the form is stamped. It starts when that down payment is in. Later parts can be paid the way you pay any other SSGC bill. The channels are in how to pay an SSGC bill online.

You can view and download the bill from home. You cannot finish the installment application from home. Identity and the signature are checked at the centre. Once the form is logged, the account is marked under review, which holds off an immediate disconnection while management decides and you clear the down payment.

How to Keep the Plan Alive

  • Each part is added to that month's gas bill. Pay the combined amount before the due date. Paying only the new gas, and skipping the qist, is a missed installment.
  • One miss can cancel the relief. The remaining arrears are put back in full and a disconnection notice can follow. If that happens, go back to the same centre with your receipts before the meter is removed. Do not wait for a second bill.
  • Keep every challan. Bank stamps are the proof if the next bill still shows the old arrears. Online payments need the transaction ID as well. Give it 24 to 72 hours, then check the bill again.
  • Watch the next winter. A timer on the geyser, covered pipes, and a serviced heater are what keep the following January out of the top slab. Email alerts tell you when that bill is issued.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can check and download the bill online. The application itself is at an SSGC customer care centre, because they match your CNIC to the consumer and you sign the form there.

After the application is logged, the account is marked under review. That holds an immediate disconnection while the decision is pending and until the down payment is cleared. It is not a substitute for paying the challan.

A late-payment surcharge or a regulated charge that is already on an overdue balance can remain. The plan does not add a separate "installment product" on top of that in this guide. What you gain is time. You pay a down payment now and the rest with coming bills, instead of the full arrears at once.

The relief can be cancelled. The unpaid balance is restored in full, and a disconnection notice can be issued. Take your challans back to the centre as soon as you know a part was missed. Paying the next ordinary bill online does not rebuild the plan by itself.

Run the geyser on a timer, insulate the hot-water pipe, and service the heater before November. The slab you cross is explained in the SSGC tariff guide. A monthly email gives you the bill while there is still time to pay or to ask for qist before the due date.
