A big bill is stressful. Many people search "IESCO installment" hoping to split this month's bill. IESCO's FAQ page says installments are not allowed on the running bill. But NEPRA's newer Consumer Service Manual, dated November 2025, allows them. There is also help for old dues. Here is how it works, question by question.
What can be paid in installments?
Two kinds of dues can be split:
- The current month's bill. NEPRA's Consumer Service Manual (clause 6.8.2) covers a "request for installment of current month's bill".
- Arrears. These are electricity dues that are already outstanding against your connection. IESCO's FAQ sets the rules for these, as shown below.
How do current-bill installments work?
Clause 6.8.2 of NEPRA's Consumer Service Manual (November 2025) says that if you ask for installments of the current month's bill:
- there is no markup and no late payment surcharge (LPS) if the first installment is paid within the due date;
- the remaining installments are paid with markup at 14% per annum, on a pro-rata basis.
The manual also says DISCOs may give installments and due-date extensions "as per their business requirements" (clause 6.8.3), and that they will issue computerised bills once installments are allowed (clause 6.8.4).
Not sure if you have arrears? Your bill shows them. NEPRA's Consumer Service Manual defines arrears as the "unpaid amount of the bill". You can see your latest bill on our IESCO bill check page.
Who approves the installments?
For arrears, IESCO's FAQ links each officer to an amount of arrears and a maximum number of equal monthly installments. For general connections it lists:
| Officer | Arrears amount in IESCO's FAQ | Most installments |
|---|---|---|
| SDO (sub-division) | Rs 2,000 | 3 equal monthly |
| XEN (division) | Rs 10,000 | 3 equal monthly |
| SE (circle) | Rs 100,000 | 4 equal monthly |
| CEO | Not stated | 6 equal monthly |

Who qualifies?
For arrears, IESCO says these powers are used only in genuine and deserving cases. There is one clear test: you must not have defaulted in payment during the last six months.
What do I have to agree to?
For arrears, you give IESCO a written undertaking. In it you promise to:
- pay the installment bills together with your current bills, on time;
- not ask for installments on these dues again.
Keeping these promises is a condition for keeping your connection.
Is there any interest?
It depends on what you split. For the current month's bill, NEPRA's manual says there is no markup if the first installment is paid within the due date, and 14% per annum, pro-rata, on the remaining installments. For arrears, IESCO's FAQ says interest is charged at the prevailing bank rates. Ask your office how much it will be before you sign.
How do I apply?
The first officer in IESCO's list is the SDO, so start at your sub-division office. Take your latest bill and be ready to sign the undertaking. Our IESCO office directory lists division and sub-division offices by city.
What if my power is already cut?
IESCO's FAQ covers this too. If you were disconnected for non-payment and ask for reconnection with installments:
- You sign an undertaking on stamped paper. It says your supply can be cut at once if you miss an installment or a current bill.
- You pay a fresh security deposit at current rates and sign a fresh agreement.
- Supply comes back only after you pay the first installment and finish the other formalities.
Do
Pay each installment and each current bill before the due date. Keep every receipt.
Don't
Skip a payment. Under NEPRA's manual, a new default can mean disconnection without further notice.
Arrears on my bill are wrong. Do I still need installments?
No. Get them corrected first. IESCO's FAQ says wrongly added arrears can be corrected if you show the bank receipt of your previous bill, at the sub-division, a customer service centre, or the bank branch when you pay. Our IESCO bill history and paid status guide explains how to check past payments.

More questions
Can I pay this month's IESCO bill in installments?
Yes, you can ask. NEPRA's Consumer Service Manual (November 2025) allows installments of the current month's bill. There is no markup or late payment surcharge if the first installment is paid within the due date. The remaining installments carry markup at 14% per annum on a pro-rata basis.
Is interest charged on IESCO installments?
Yes, after the first installment. For the current month's bill, NEPRA's manual sets markup at 14% per annum on the remaining installments, with none if the first installment is paid within the due date. For arrears, IESCO's FAQ says interest is charged at the prevailing bank rates.
Can I get installments if I missed payments recently?
For arrears, probably not. IESCO's FAQ says installment powers are used only where the consumer has not defaulted in payment during the last six months.
Will my connection stay on while I pay installments?
Yes, as long as you keep paying. NEPRA's Consumer Service Manual says supply should not be disconnected while installments are being paid. If you default again, supply can be cut without further notice and restored only after at least 50% of the dues are paid.
Where do installments show on my bill?
NEPRA's Consumer Service Manual lists "Installments" as a bill item. It means the amount to be paid under the installments allowed by the competent officer.
